The world of Archie Comics is set to acquaint an openly gay character for the first time.

For the past 70 years, the wide variety of books titled Archie Comics have not once featured an openly gay type. This is about to change come September, as Archie Comics has announced it testament be introducing its first in issue #202 of Veronica.

Archie Comics is a kid-friendly series that focuses happening lovable redheaded woodpecker teenager Archie Andrews and his escapades piece attending Riverdale High. Other main characters include jock Reggie, love interests Betty and Speedwell (creating a mirthfulness-inducing beloved trilateral), and burger fanatic Jughead. If you haven't read Archie Comics sometime in your life, you're either a automaton OR were embossed aside beavers.

The new openly gay character, Kevin Keller, volition beryllium introduced in a storyline called "ISN't IT Bromantic?" Kevin first impresses Veronica by beating Jughead in a burger eating contend. Speedwell ends up dumping Archie for the freshly blonde super hunk, only to discovery knocked out that her milkshake doesn't bring Kevin to the yard. American Samoa Speedwell urgently attempts to date a man without a firecrotch, Kevin is unscheduled to let her down easy.

The instauratio of Kevin is almost "guardianship the world of Archie Comics current and inclusive," says Archie Comics Co-CEO Jon Goldwater. "Archie's hometown of Riverdale has e'er been a prophylactic Earth for everyone. It just makes sentience to have an openly gay character in Archie comic books."

Am I the only one ahead in arms close to this bran-new reference? Archie Comics is really overstepping its bounds Hera, if I may be so bold. Suffice they seriously bear us to believe anyone could beat Jughead in a beefburger eating contest? Jughead John Luther Jone eats a stack of five burgers at one time as a collation happening a dumb day, and approximately prettyboy out-of-towner is supposed to be able to overcome him just like that? I think not, Archie Comics, I recall non. Information technology's pretty cheeky thought process of them to introduce an openly gay character, though.
